FEDERATION INFORMATION

 

Terms and Abbreviations

GFWC:                        General Federation of Women’s Clubs is the international (55 foreign countries and some 60,000 women in the U.S.) organization of women developed for community service and education purposes.  It was founded in 1890.

 

GFWC-WFWC: Wisconsin Federation of Women’s Clubs is the state level of affiliation with GFWC.

 

4th District:           Wisconsin is divided into ten districts.  All federated clubs in Milwaukee County belong to the 4th district.

 

“General Club”:     Federated club whose membership is over 50 years old.  This varies from club to club.  GFWC-WFWC has 200 general clubs.

 

“Junior Club”:        Federated Club whose members are under 45 years old.  This varies from club to club.  GFWC-WFWC has Junior Clubs.

 

Fall Conference:    In October of each year, all Junior Clubs meet in one of the ten districts to hold an annual convention.

 

State Convention: In the spring of each year, the annual meeting of all General and Junior Clubs is held in one of the ten districts.
